Electric School Bus Funding is Available for School Districts in New Jersey
Funding is available through the following programs:
New Jersey Zero-Emission Incentive Program (NJ ZIP)
The NJ ZIP program is a $165M voucher launched by the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) for Medium and Heavy Duty Zero-Emission Vehicles, including electric school buses. Phase III of the program is expected to open in fall 2025. Base voucher amounts will likely range from $15,000-$175,000. Learn more.
New Jersey Electric School Bus Grant Program
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s (NJDEP) Electric School Bus Grant Program provides a total of $15 million per year for three years to support the transition to electric school buses. This is the second round of funding. Grant amounts range from $300,000-$350,000. Applications are due September 26, 2025 at 5:00PM. Learn more.
2025 Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGCI) Funding
The Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) provides funding for Type A electric school buses. Applications for this program are open and ongoing. Learn more.
