Why Go Electric Now?

The Canadian Government is committed to reducing the impacts of climate change by working toward net-zero emissions by 2050. As part of this ambitious plan, the Emissions Reduction Plan was put in place as a target in meeting the nation’s net-zero goals. Through this plan, the government will phase out the sale of gas and diesel vehicles, including school buses.

Federal funding is currently available to help fund electric school buses. With grant incentives like the Zero Emission Transit Fund (ZETF), Canadian school districts have the opportunity to begin electrifying their fleets with financial support. ZETF is a $2.75 billion transit fund developed by the Government of Canada, in partnership with Canada Infrastructure Bank. The program opened in 2021 and is scheduled to end on March 1, 2026. This funding is dedicated to municipalities, transit authorities, and school districts and will help offset the cost of purchasing electric buses and charging infrastructure.
