Duncan McIntyre
After seeing his second-grade son waiting at a school bus stop with his mouth at the same level of a diesel tailpipe, Duncan McIntyre set out to make transportation cleaner and healthier for everyone. He founded Highland Electric Fleets in 2018 to make the transition to electric municipal fleets simple and affordable for communities across North America.
Under his leadership, Highland has become North America’s leading provider of Electrification-as-a-Service, managing some of the nation’s largest electric school bus fleets and pioneering vehicle-to-grid technology. The company’s work now spans more than 30 states, bringing electric school buses to communities large and small across the country. In 2025, Highland was named the Official Electric School Bus Provider of the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games and Team USA. In 2024, Duncan was recognized by Business Insider among its Climate Action 15: Global Innovators Powering Climate Solutions, and Highland was named to the TIME 100 Most Influential Companies list and honored as Clean Technology Transportation Company of the Year by the CleanTech Breakthrough Awards.
Before founding Highland, Duncan founded and served as President of Altenex, the first renewable energy marketplace for Fortune 500 companies before the company was acquired by Edison International in 2015. A graduate of Babson College, he began his career in venture capital and investment banking. Outside of work, Duncan is passionate about land preservation and local organic farming and enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife, three children, and three dogs.
