Manager, Technical Accounting & Reporting

We're looking for a highly motivated technical accounting and reporting professional to join our dynamic team. This is a great opportunity to be a part of a collaborative team for candidates who are looking to enhance their technical accounting skills. This individual will take on interesting and challenging responsibilities, including providing guidance on complex technical accounting to our accounting and capital markets teams, supporting the implementation of new accounting standards, and other areas of technical accounting, managing the monthly close and production of financial statements in according to GAAP, as well as working with the team to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the finance function through an ERP implementation.

The candidate will report to the Director of FP&A and manage a staff of one.

Responsibilities

  • Monthly Close & Production of Financial Statements:

  • - The Accounting Manager will be responsible for driving all aspects of the month-end close process, which includes balance sheet reconciliations, ad-hoc analyses, trial balance reviews, and financial statement preparation, while adhering to tight deadlines

  • - Consolidating and reporting Highland's financial information on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis (management reporting and US GAAP financial statements) in a to-be determined format.

  • -Monitor and guide staff accountant on all aspects of processing AP, AR, and general journal entries.

  • Guidance on Complex Technical Accounting:

  • -Perform front-end contract analysis to evaluate lease/nonlease and classification contracts.

  • -Advise team on how to apply complex accounting and ownership structures to our pricing and forecasting

  • -Develop standardized practices for evaluating and quantifying impacts to our contracts.

  • -Demonstrate a solid understanding of US GAAP and technical reporting regulations while being a part of a dynamic and collaborative team and having opportunities to enhance technical accounting skills.

  • -Research various US GAAP guidance and applicable technical reporting regulations related to major corporate events and document in technical memoranda.

  • -Train the team on the new accounting standards, including ASC 842.

  • -Proactively monitor changes to accounting environment, research and assess the impact of new accounting guidance on the Company’s financial statements.

  • -Assist with implementation of internal controls needed in a high growth technology company to ensure SOX compliance.

  • -Identify process improvement opportunities and collaborate with cross-functional teams on process improvement initiatives

Skills

  • 5-8 years of accounting-related work experience, including experience with US GAAP accounting and financial reporting.

  • The ideal candidate should have substantive knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, practices, processes, and procedures and will be involved in laying the foundation of a scalable accounting function. Exposure to partnership accounting for renewable energy projects is desirable.

  • ERP experience are huge pluses

  • Capability to work cross-functionally and communicate and educate on processes.

  • Ability to operate effectively and thrive in fast-moving and ambiguous environments

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including advanced skills in Excel

  • Bill.com, Expensify, Quickbooks and Netsuite experience highly desirable.
