Manager, Project Development

Description
The Manager of Project Development will play a key role in developing and deploying Highland’s customer projects and growing the Project Development team. This role will be responsible for a team of analysts and owning the overall success of each project’s development – adeptly managing project cost, quality, and timeline and proactively problem solving any potential disruptions. This role will report directly to Highland’s Director of Fleet Operations and will work closely with internal teams across Commercial, Legal, Supply Chain, and Fleet Operations and external contractors and consultants to build Highland’s projects.
Responsibilities
Lead all aspects of a project’s electric vehicle infrastructure development and deployment – bringing a customer’s project from awarded concept to fully commissioned site
Be fully accountable to project success and manage its budget, quality, and schedule
Manage internal resources and third-party contractors and consultants to deploy equipment, design infrastructure, manage the utility interconnection process, and fully commission sites
Lead a team of project development analysts to build multiple project sites simultaneously, balancing multiple competing demands to keep all projects on track and within budget
Proactively and creatively solve potential issues that could derail projects, including permitting, utility submissions, equipment procurement, and customer operational challenges during construction
Manage project budgets, update forecasts, and develop strategies for cost containment
Develop and utilize new technologies, systems, and processes to standardize and optimize all aspects of project development
Work cross-functionally with Legal and Commercial teams to develop sites to maximize flexibility and overall project value
Collaborate with the rest of Fleet Operations team to prepare for commercial operations, including scheduling training, facilitating vehicle registration, and preparing for vehicle deliveries
Skills
Bachelor’s degree
4+ years’ experience in construction or engineering project development or management, including experience managing complex projects, in any of the following: renewable energy development, vehicle electrification, EV charging infrastructure, power grids, transportation and logistics
2+ years’ management experience leading teams and developing junior staff
Demonstrated experience in project management, with organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills, written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail
Familiarity with large project management tools, software, contracting structures and projects
Self-motivated: proactively assume responsibilities, with ability to operate effectively with high energy and flexibility in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
Ability to collaborate across company departments as well as external customers and partners
Prior experience with permitting, utilities, regulatory processes, engineering and design drawings, and the preparation and completion of cost estimates and bid documents is a plus
